EDHAA Presidents
Message for January 2012
I would like to thank Judy, the Board of Directors, (past and
present) and the membership for supporting and having faith in
me as your new President. I would also like to thank our
new Vice President, Rich Penstein, for the great job he has done
in scheduling the demonstrators for 2012 and thanks to Linda McCann
for taking care of the board-approved changes to the Scholarship
program. We now offer a scholarship to all high schools in
El Dorado County.
The January meeting will be an outstanding one with Kit Night
as our speaker. She will actually be doing an instruction and critique
session on Dynamic Composition, rather than a demo. You will
not want to miss this one. I am looking forward to seeing
and meeting everyone in 2012.
Wishing everyone a happy and successful new year! ~
Charlie Meade

Guest Speaker for January 9th, 2012
January
9, Kit Night: Dynamic Composition & Shapes of Values
We have had requests for more instruction and less demonstration. Hence, this
will not be a demo, but an instructive presentation about creating dynamic composition. I
will have some examples of my work.
More importantly, please bring your work for a supportive conversation
and critique group. It’s an opportunity to learn from each
other on how best to improve our compositions and take our work
to the next level. We will address as many pieces as time allows
in a positive and instructive manner.
There will be a talk on flat / abstract space versus “realistic” deep
space, dynamic use of shadow and light, and active divisions of
negative space. This is applicable to all genres of painting.
Kit was recently invited to give critique at the PAA, before their
juried show ~ An informative and fun time for all. She is an animated
and accessible instructor.

EDHAA General Meeting
Minutes December 2011
The December 2011 meeting was a social affair and Christmas party. Members brought
food and artwork for sharing. We enjoyed a little Show and Tell on each
piece of artwork displayed, getting to know the motivation behind the piece
and a bit about their medium and themselves.
Darlene Balsama is the Refreshments chairman. Members are asked
to sign up to provide refreshments for one of the meetings, receipts
for refreshments can be submitted for reimbursement to Gwen Flores.
Gwen Flores announced that Membership Renewal for the El Dorado
Hills Art Association dues are $20 for an individual and $35
for a family and due at the first of the year. Feel free to bring
your check to the January meeting. Contact Gwen at: gwenflores@sbcglobal.net to
submit updated information or to receive information about your
renewal by mail. Please see attachment below for Membership Form,
kindly supplied by our new membership person: Linda Burnett.
Scholarship chairman Linda McCann will be interviewing interested
students for the Scholarship award and this has been opened up
for all High School students to apply.
New Member Mark Goddard was introduced. He works in Acrylics
with Mondolic focus (Meditative purpose, Natural
inspriation, Western Indigenous baskets.) All of his works are
original designs inspired by many of the identifiable patterns
featured in the tribal basketry. His quilting tradition is another
source of inspiration for him. You can view his works at: www.sacredportalsart.com
