EDHAA Presidents Message
for August 2008
August Membership Show
Dates are: Aug 14, 15, 16 & 18, 19 and 20 at the El Dorado
Hills Branch Library on Silva Valley Parkway in EDH. Good
Luck to everyone who has entered your art work. For those
members who did not enter, please try to attend the show and give
your support to the participating artist. The show committee
has chosen Jan Miskulin to be our judge and juror for this year’s
event. She received her MFA from Stanford University and
has taught many workshops. She has judged numerous exhibitions
and has lots of one-woman show which have won numerous top awards. She
works primarily in watercolor but also in oil. A
big thank you goes to Varya for her hard work on this show.

I was sorry to hear that our July demonstrator was sick with the
flu. Bob Tonjes was going to demonstrate how he creates a
reverse image on glass using acrylic paint, we hope that he is
feeling better and will be available to demonstrate his techniques
next year.
Placerville Art Assoc. Will
be offering 4 workshops that will be conducted during the Mother
Lode Show in the Shakespeare Club.
The dates are Aug 12 (Beverly
Field – collage techniques);
Aug 14 (Connie Randmaa – pastels
over watercolor);
Aug 18 (Lucia Rothgeb – Calligraphy);
Aug
20 (Terry Miuro – 5 Elements of white in oil).

13, 2008 from 7-9 pm
Lucia Rothgeb, will give an informative talk on
what acrylics have to offer the artist. Although Lucia is
an accomplished artist using watercolor, she has been working in
acrylics using several different mediums. Plan to attend
our next meeting and she what ‘pearls of wisdom’ she
has to offer regarding acrylic techniques.
Making art is part of my history and my life. Drawing and
Painting since childhood, I have taken additional courses, workshops
including calligraphy classes. Since I retired and moved
to Cameron Park in 1999, I’ve had a great time becoming part
of the art community in the foothills.

media, acrylic, pen & ink,
collage
I’ve studied with local painters Steve
Memering, Anita Wolff, Dale Latinen; David Lobenberg; as well
as nationally known Jan Kunz, Jane Hofstetter, and the late Richard
Yip. International painters Ewa Gargulinska and Frances Hatch.
EDHAA General Meeting
Minutes July 9, 2008 – 7 to 9pm
Welcome
Don Nicolson, filling in for Linda Smith, opened the meeting.
Continuing Business
Update on Josef Cordova drawing: Varya
McMillan reported that the drawing took place for Josef’s
painting and a gentleman won who had purchased 15 in tickets and
was very excited when he found out that he won. A total
of $100 was raised for the scholarship fund.
Membership Show: Membership
Show – August
11th to 15th 2008: Varya passed a sign-up sheet for working
at the membership show. Artists need to have their work delivered
to the library on Thursday, August 14 between 2:00-3:00pm. The
reception will be on Friday between 4:30 and 5:00. Artwork
needs to be picked up on Tuesday the 19th, after 6 pm. The Library
closes at 8 pm.
Treasurers Report – Don Nicolson: There
is a little over $4,000 in the EDHAA bank account and $293 in the
scholarship fund.
Non-Profit Status: This will be reviewed
at next Board meeting.
New Business:
Art Focus Workshops: Lucia
Rothgeb announced “Art
Focus Workshops” that will be held in August, sponsored by
the Placerville Arts Association. There will be four
workshops from 1 – 4 pm. Instructors are Beverly Fields,
Connie Randmaa, Lucia Rothgeb and Terry Miura. Proceeds will
benefit the scholarship fund for 2009 high school students. Applications
form can be found on the Placerville Arts Association website.
Placerville Arts Association Studio
Tour: Reception
for the Studio Tour will be at Gallery 4 on August 16th (Third
Saturday Art Walk) between 6-9pm. Artists can take a piece
of artwork to display at the reception and take it home when they
leave.
Lucia mentioned that artists who will be sending
out a lot of postcards for the studio tour might want to consider
using “bulk
mail”, which cost about half of regular postage. The
postcards need to be divided by first 3 digits of zip and given
to Joan Kramer for her to put all together. She will need
a check for postage before they are mailed.
The Redbud Café has offered to display18 large paintings
for the month of August for PAA Studio Tour artists. Please
contact Diane Sewell at 530-409-0724.
Guest Artist: Bob Tonjes– “Applying
acrylic paint to the reverse side of glass”. Bob unfortunately
was ill and wasn’t able to attend.
