NEXT MEETING, Dec 19, 6PM This Northern California artist was born and raised in the Chicago area. She received her BFA degree from the University of Illinois School of Fine and Applied Arts. She also studied with local artists Jim Estey, Gary Prunner and Michele LeCompte. Sue began as a traditional watercolorist but switched to acrylics because she felt she could be more experimental. She finds this medium has allowed her to grow as an artist and has helped her to create her own distinct style.
On her plein air painting excursions, Sue developed a particular attraction to Northern California’s vast and interesting landscape. For the past 20 years she has concentrated on Northern California from the Bay area to Lake Tahoe and in between. She was a member of Placerville’s Gold Country Artists Gallery for many years and then became a resident artist in ARTHOUSE on R Street in Sacramento. She retired from there in January 2023. Over the years, Sue has entered her work in many local and national juried shows and has won various awards. She is collected both here and abroad. You can view her work on her website, www.suechapmanart.com. Upcoming Meetings Dec. 19 - Holiday Party! 6-8pm Potluck Dinner and Socializing. THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hi EDHAA members,
This year is racing by. It’s already October 1st and we’ve accomplished so much in 9 short months!
Kudos to the EDHAA Board. We couldn’t have achieved so much without the 2023 Board: V.P.- Linda Smith, Treasurer- Bob Anderson, Sec. Alison Yeadon, Membership- Sandy Allie, Webmaster/ Editors- JoElla Allen & Bob Anderson , Special Events Coordinators- Tim Midboe & Don Lawson. OK, Here’s What We've Done!:
- Amazing Demonstrations. Thanks to all the amazing demonstrators generously shared their skills & expertise with our members at our monthly meetings (we’re looking forward to Linda Nunes in Oct. and Sue Chapman in Nov.
- A Successful Studio Tour. The 2023 Studio Tour was a huge success (as always), thanks to Bonita Gohler and everyone who served on her committee and to all the talented artists who participated.
- Teaching at the Senior Center. Three of our members volunteered to teach at the Senior Center. Thanks so much to Richard Gilmore, Ron Robidoux and Oranne Eichorn for sharing you time and talent with our seniors!
- New Meeting Location. We’ve been blessed to have a wonderful location for our monthly meetings at the EDH Library, thanks to Jan Robins ( head librarian).
- Creation of the Fine Arts Festival. We were double blessed with our relationship with the library when Jan and the Friends of the Library Foundation partnered with us to host the 1st annual Fine Arts Festival. It promises to be a phenomenal event that includes so many wonderful artists from EDHAA, FAA & PAA with a kids interactive art section, food trucks and great music!
- Member Show at Bank of America Gallery. Thanks to Marisa Sayago for giving us the opportunity to have our 2023 Membership Show in the prestigious Harris Center, and to Tim Midboe for organizing it and all of our talented members who entered. I know it will be an amazing show of which we will be proud. Marisa will also be judging the show.
- New Scholarship Focus. Marisa has also volunteered to get the Folsom College Art Dept. to assist in selection of an art student for our 2023 Scholarship recipient.
Why am I going on about all of our accomplishments now? Because it’s October. and time to select our 2024 Board of Directors and the Chairpersons who will assist them to insure that 2024 will continue with the momentum we've created this year. We have welcomed many eager new members to our association and are optimistic that with everyone’s help it promises to be an excellent new year!
Linda is filling in for me in October, because I’ll be in Egypt with my family. I know there’s lots going on, that I’m sorry to miss, but it will be a very busy and amazing month. See you in November.
Thanks to everyone for an excellent year!
Judy
